The 15th ranked UC Irvine Anteaters travel up north for a pair of games Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 9-10). UCI plays GCC opponent No. 3 Pacific Saturday at 12 p.m. followed by Cal Sunday at 1 p.m. in a non-conference tilt.
WEEKEND STORYLINES
- UCI slipped to No. 15 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) national poll after ranking as high as No. 9. The 'Eaters started the season ranked at No. 13
- The 'Eaters dropped to 6-11, 0-3 on the season after falling to No. 3 UC Santa Barbara in conference play last weekend. UCI will look to break an eight-game losing streak and win its first GCC match of the season
- The schedule has not been easy as UCI will faces its third-straight team ranked within the top-five nationally
- UCI and No. 3 Pacific will square off for the first time this season. The Tigers are 14-3 overall and 3-0 in conference. UoP has won three-straight games and currently remains on top of the GCC standings
- This will be the first time the two teams meet this season. UoP beat UCI on all three occasions last season including a 9-8 decision in the GCC Tournament semifinals
- The Tigers are led by Luke Pavillard with 48 goals followed by Jeremy Cote with 42. In goal, Jon Barry has 134 saves on the season and a 10.89 GAA
- UCI and Cal will meet for the third time this season. The Golden Bears won the first two meetings by an average of five goals
- Cal is led by Safak Simsek with 41 goals. In goal, Adrian Weinberg has 159 saves for a 50.8% save percentage
- Head coach Marc Hunt earned his 200th career win against Cal Baptist (Sept. 14)
- Junior Jason Evezard set a new single-game school record against CBU scoring nine goals
LAST WEEK
- UCI dropped a conference showdown to No. 4 UC Santa Barbara
- Casey Lynton and Jason Evezard each had a hat trick, tallying three goals
- Chandler Mankins played a complete game in goal and finished with seven saves
- It was a tight match at the half as UCI only trailed by two, 7-5
- The Gauchos would stretch the lead in the second half to seal the 15-10 win
TOP PERFORMERS
- Evezard leads the Anteaters with 45 points (36 goals and nine assists)
- Bryant Joudrie has 17 goals on the season and leads the team in assists (21) and steals (17) Â
- Jon Polos has drawn a team-high 26 exclusions and has 15 goals
- Casey Lynton, Ivan Mercep and Zlatan Nikocevic are also in double-figures with 17, 14 and 10 goals apiece
- Harrison Land has totaled 106 saves for a .488 save percentage while Collin Winters has 34 saves in seven games played. Chandler Mankins has played five goals in the cage tallying 20 saves
- UCI is averaging 8.94 goals per game while allowing opponents 11.71 goals per game
- The 'Eaters are shooting .282 on the season and average 9.00 saves per game

- UC Irvine returns three of its four leading scorers from a year ago including top-scorer and GCC Newcomer of the Year Jason Evezard (64 goals). GCC Honorable Mention selection Casey Lynton returns as the team's leader in assists (28) and steals (43). He also produced 34 goals last season. Seniors Jon Polos and Bryant Jourdie each contributed 24 and 22 goals, respectively
- Other top returners include All-GCC Freshman Team honoree Zlatan Nikocevic (17 goals, 12 assists), seniors Ian Fleenor (12 goals, 13 assists), Foster Hoose (11 steals, four goals) and Sven Davidson (7 steals, three goals)
- Overall, UCI returns 16 players and welcomes 9 newcomers. The 'Eaters lost 10 letter winners from a year ago
- Head Coach Marc Hunt enters his 15th season at the helm behind a 201-185 career record.
- Fans will get seven chances to see the Anteaters play at home including their home opener against last year's NCAA runner-up Stanford on Oct. 13
