Chloe Webb comes to UC Irvine as a highly-touted recruit out of Mater Dei Catholic High School in Chula Vista.
Â
The 5-foot-8 guard, who was a four-year starter for the Crusaders, earned multiple all-state and All-CIF honors during her prep career. As a junior, she led her team to the Regional Final of the CIF Division 3 State Championships, averaging a double-double at 20.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. She was also a 2019 McDonald's All-American Game nominee.
Â
Chloe's success came not only from her natural athletic ability, but also from years of hard work and dedication to the game.
Â
"I started loving the game of basketball at a young age," said Chloe. "I would play basketball nonstop; there was never a season that I stopped playing."
Â
It all started when Chloe's parents signed her up for basketball at the YMCA when she was only five years old. She went on to play for a couple different club teams before finishing out her AAU career with EBO.
Â
Always knowing she wanted to pursue basketball, Chloe didn't play any other organized sports growing up. But, some of her fondest childhood memories are of family softball and flag football games. And in her family, those games got pretty intense considering her lineage.
Â
Chloe's father, Reggie Webb, was a college football star at Long Beach State where he was the starting tailback under head coach George Allen. He went on to the NFL combine following his collegiate career, but a knee injury forced him into early football retirement.
Â
Another strong presence in the family competitions was Chloe's uncle, Terrell Davis, a Professional Football Hall of Famer and former Denver Broncos running back (1995-2001). Davis finished his NFL career as a two-time Super Bowl champion and the Broncos' all-time rushing leader.
Â
Both her father and uncle, among other family members, have had a big impact on Chloe's basketball career.
Â
"My uncle is somebody I look up to, not just because of how far he got in life, but how he got to that point," said Chloe. "My dad has also influenced me as one of my biggest supporters. He was there sitting on the sidelines for every game."
Â
Chloe will continue to draw on her family's support as she begins her collegiate career. An injury from her high school days set her back slightly this summer, but she knows what it will take to bounce back in her freshman campaign.
Â
"Coming out of an injury and playing at this level has been a challenge, but a good one," said Chloe. "One of the biggest challenges is working my way back up. The transition from high school to college is a lot different and this is the time where I need to lock in and focus on what I need to get done."
