Box Score IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine made a move late in all three sets, but could not overcome Georgia in a 3-0 loss (25-23, 25-22, 25-22) at the Bren Events Center Friday evening.

UCI falls to 1-4 overall, while Georgia remains undefeated at 5-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>Outside hitter Loryn Carter topped the Anteaters with a season-tying 11 kills
>Cassie Stewart recorded a career-high seven kills for the second consecutive match
>UCI hit .204 (33-14-93) the best performance of the year. The Anteaters out-hit Georgia (.198) as well as out-blocked the Bulldogs (7-4)
>T'ara Cesar led the Bulldogs with a match-high 14 kills

TURNING POINTS
SET 1
>UCI scored the first three points on Bulldog attack errors
>Georgia would catch UCI at 8 all on back-to-back Anteater errors
>Loryn Carter had two kills to help UCI back from a 20-17 deficit and knot the score at 20-20
>The Bulldogs responded with the next three points only to watch UCI score three of their own, 23-23
>A kill and a block closed it out to give Georgia the 25-23 victory

SET 2
>The Bulldogs went on a 6-2 run, that included five UCI miscues to open a 12-7 lead
>A 6-0 spurt opened a 18-9 Georgia lead
>Georgia appeared to be cruising along with a 20-12 lead, but the Anteaters weren't done. UCI closed to 23-20 on the strength of two kills from Cassie Stewart and Loryn Carter and an ace from Abby Marjama
>Following a Georgia timeout, the teams would side out to end the set with the Bulldogs winning,  25-22

SET 3
>UCI led 8-5 on a Marjama ace then 9-7 on a Carter kill. Georgia tallied three in a row to take the 10-9 lead
>A 6-1 run by Georgia gave the Bulldogs a 20-15 edge
>A kill by Marjama tightened the Bulldog lead to 22-24, but an Anteater attack error ended the set, 25-22 and the match 3-0 for Georgia

"We played well enough to win today. We need to stay consistent and find ways to close out sets."

NOTES
>This was the first ever meeting between the teams
>It is the third time Carter has led the team in kills this year
>Marjama added three aces to increase her team lead to 17
