IRVINE, Calif. - Junior Barbara Coward broke her own school record in the hammer throw to get the UC Irvine women's track & field team off to a strong start at the Steve Scott Invitational Friday at Anteater Stadium.

Coward was the top collegiate finisher, and second overall, with a toss of 192-03. She became the first 'Eater in program history to surpass 190 feet. The Atwater, Calif., native improved on her previous school record of 187-07 three times over her last four attempts as she closed out Flight 3 with a toss of 188-07, before hitting 191-08 on her second throw in the finals. Coward then unleashed a huge personal-best of 192-03 to wrap up the competition. She is now tops in the Big West by over seven feet.

Senior Alison Meegan added a top-10 showing, placing sixth overall with a mark of 177-05. Sophomore Brianna Villanueva ended up finishing 16th at 156-02.

Freshman Natalie Koppel took seventh out of 43 in the long jump. She reached the 19-foot mark for the first time in her career as she notched a lifetime-best 19-05.5. Koppel catapulted herself to No. 3 on UCI's all-time charts. Sophomore Tatyana Hamlett also came away with a personal-record 17-06.25 (29th).

Junior Adrienne Lee led a trio of Anteaters in the pole vault where she cleared 11-05.75 to tie for ninth. Freshman Bryn Hyde finished 22nd (10-00), and senior Michelle Figarella matched her season-best of 9-06.25 (23rd).

On the track, sophomore Anastasia Karnaze came in fifth in the steeplechase, clocking in with her second best time of the year at 11:03.78. Sophomore Keely Boyd was also 17th in the 5000m (18:51.15), while senior Jenessa Reyes was 23rd with a season-best 19:43.81.
