
Kim, Young Post Top-10 Finishes at Sacramento State Invitational

ELK GROVE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's golf team was in contention for the Sacramento State Invitational team title, but came up just short as the 'Eaters finished third Tuesday at Valley Hi Country Club.
The Anteaters shot a 289 in the final round for a 54-hole score of 871 (294-288-289). They were only one stroke back of Grand Canyon and Long Beach State, which tied for first. The Lopes ended up claiming the championship via a tiebreaker. UC Santa Barbara (879) and Weber State (883) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Senior David Kim led the way with his second runner-up showing of the year. He was the only participant to record two rounds in the 60's after carding a 3-under 69 on Tuesday. His 66 in the second round also stood as the best of the tournament. Kim, who totaled 15 birdies over the course of the two days, finished with a 54-hole score of 212 (-4).
Senior Jonathan Young had his first top-10 performance of the 2017-18 campaign, placing seventh overall at 1-over 217 (73-71-73).
Sophomore Jonathan Kang tied for 23rd with a three-round total of 222 (72-77-73), while junior Ramiz Jamal climbed four spots in the third round to tie for 28th with a 224 (74-76-74).
Senior Ryan O'Connor wasn't far behind in 30th as he shot three consecutive rounds of 3-over 75 (225).
Long Beach State's Joe Fryer was individual medalist at 6-under 210, finishing two strokes ahead of David Kim. Brett Bennett (UCSB) and Vinnie Murphy (GCU) also tied for third at 214.
UC Irvine will be back in action April 7-8 at the Western Intercollegiate in Santa Cruz.
