UC Irvine Closes out Weekend at Mondo Team Challenge

Final Results
SACRAMENTO - The UC Irvine women's track & field team wrapped up its weekend at the Mondo Team Challenge Saturday at Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium.
Senior Persis William-Mensah posted the Anteaters' top time of the 2018 campaign in her 100m season debut. Despite running into a slight headwind, William-Mensah clocked in at 11.74 seconds to claim runner-up honors. She already holds the school record with a lifetime-best 11.57, which she established at last year's Mondo Team Challenge.
Senior Tyra Jones also overcame a headwind of 1.4 meters per second to take silver in the 100H (14.06). Junior Mychal Robinson added a 10th-place finish (14.84).
Junior Hope Bushnell continued to produce in the short sprints with a pair of top-five performances. She led the 'Eaters in the 200m where she placed third overall (24.20), and came in fifth in the 100m (11.89).
Freshman Mikayla Scott contributed a sixth-place showing in the 200m (24.64), while senior Simone Buchanan notched a season-best 24.92 to finish eighth.
Junior Julia Sambvani tied for 10th in the 100m (12.13), and sophomore Cecily Montanez registered a season-best 67.95 in the 400m hurdles (10th).
Bushnell, William-Mensah, Sambvani and Scott took third in the 4x100 relay (45.66).
Sambvani, Scott, junior Hallie Pullum and Buchanan also combined to run 3:52.54 in the 4x400 (5th).
Junior Barbara Coward led the field athletes as she was fourth in the hammer with a personal-record 177-04, which ranks third in school history. Coward also placed sixth in the discus (148-08), while sophomore Brianna Villanueva was eighth (141-01).
Junior Elizabeth Akindele continued to make strides in the shot put with a season-best 46-00.75, coming up just 9.25 inches short of her PR.
Junior Adrienne Lee established a career best in the pole vault for the second-straight week, clearing 11-07.75. She sits at No. 6 on UCI's all-time charts.
In addition, sophomore Tatyana Hamlett was10th in the triple jump (36-04), and freshman Natalie Koppel was 17th in the long jump (16-05).
UC Irvine returns to Anteater Stadium on Friday, April 6, to host Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State and UC Santa Barbara in the 26th annual Big West Challenge.
