Ivan Canales Lauded as Academic All-District

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine men's soccer senior forward Ivan Canales joined the distinguished ranks of the Google Cloud Academic All-District Team Thursday afternoon.
Canales joined the 11-player roster from his region, District VIII, recognized as one of the nation's top student-athletes for his combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
The sociology major posted a GPA over the required 3.30 for his collegiate career while also appearing in over 50% of the Anteaters' matches in 2018. He was named the Big West Offensive Player of the Year tying atop the conference with 25 points from 10 goals and five assists as well as the third-most game-winning goals in the nation with six.
Canales is the 10th different Anteater to be recognized a total of 11 times now. The last came in 2015 as Jack Birkenbeuel represented UC Irvine and District VIII. Voting for All-Americans begins next week with the team being announced December 6.
