IRVINE, Calif. --- The theatrics and achievements from last week garnered individual praise as well for men's soccer as
Ivan Canales and
Darren Hamilton scooped up Big West Player of the Week accolades.
The Anteaters secured their fifth Big West regular season last week with a pair of double overtime victories over Cal State Fullerton and Cal Poly. It was the first title for the program since 2013.
Canales figured in all five Anteaters goals on the week scoring four times, twice in each match, and accounting for each game-winner. His season total rose to 10 goals to take the conference lead in addition to his Big West-leading 25 points.
Hamilton was instrumental in holding CSF back through 102 minutes while the 'Eaters earned a victory on senior night, and then he sprung out on offense in Sunday's double overtime victory assisting on two goals including the game-winner in the 110th minute.
The honor for each senior is the first in their careers. They join
Alvaro Quezada and
Greg Patenaude who swept the weekly awards two weeks ago as Anteaters to be honored so far in 2018.
UC Irvine finishes its regular season slate with a final match Saturday, October 27, at CSUNÂ starting at 7:00 p.m. before the Big West Tournament starts for the Anteaters on Saturday, November 3, in the semifinals to be hosted at Anteater Stadium.
