IRVINE, Calif. – Shanghai Golden Age beat UC Irvine 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-21) in an exhibition match at the Bren Events Center Tuesday evening in front of 940 fans.

NOTES & NUMBERS
>Shanghai Golden Age is the top professional team from China
>These two teams met in September in Shanghai
>UCI was led by senior Karl Apfelbach with nine kills
>Outside hitter JB Kam had six kills, a team-high seven digs and four total blocks
>The nation's No. 1 recruit Jonny Bowles added six kills

TURNING POINTS
SET 1
>UCI started with a 3-1 lead on a JB Kam kill
>Four straight kills and a UCI attack errors gave Shanghai Golden Age the 12-8 lead
>The Anteaters were down 21-18 before a block by Patrick Sohacki and Karl Apfelbach ignited a 4-1 run to tie the set at 22-22
>A kill and ace for Shanghai gave them set point, but UCI rallied on an attack error and a block by Scott Stadick, 24-24
>A service error and a kill gave Shanghai Golden Age the 26-24 victory

SET 2
>Shanghai Golden Age broke open the set with a 5-0 run which was capped by an ace, 20-12
>The visitors would score the final three points of the set, 25-18

SET 3
>The teams remained close until Shanghai used a UCI service error, a block and an ace to take a 16-13 advantage
>A Jonny Bowles ace narrowed the score to 17-16 then a Patrick Sohacki ace closed to 21-20, but Shanghai scored the next three, 24-20
>Following a Bowles kill, Shanghai ended the set and match 25-21
