IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's indoor track & field team is back in action this weekend as it makes its way to Seattle, Wash., for the UW Invitational, Jan. 26-27.

UW INVITATIONAL
The two-day meet will be held at the University of Washington's Dempsey Indoor, which is also the site of the 2018 MPSF Championships (Feb. 23-24). The Anteaters have 17 individuals entered in 10 different events this weekend. Action on the track gets underway Friday at 4 p.m., while three field events will also be contested, starting at 5 p.m. On Saturday, a full slate begins with the women's 60m hurdle qualifying round at 9 a.m.

SETTING THE STANDARD
Senior Persis William-Mensah bettered her own 60-meter school record with a personal-best 7.34 (7.38 converted) at the season-opening Lumberjack Team Challenge last Friday. It is the fourth year in a row the Costa Mesa native has set a new 60m standard at UC Irvine. Her previous best was 7.43, which she ran at the 2017 Don Kirby Invitational. William-Mensah is also scheduled to make her 200m season debut this weekend, an event in which she owns the program record (24.38).

IN THE BOOKS
Eighteen current 'Eaters have combined to produce 22 marks that rank among the top-10 in UCI's indoor history, including eight that were established in the 2018 season opener. In addition, three of those are school records held by seniors Persis William-Mensah (60m, 200m) and Simone Buchanan (400m).

WHAT'S ON TAP?
UC Irvine will have a week off before heading to Albuquerque, N.M., for the Don Kirby Invitational, Feb. 9-10. The meet will be the Anteaters' final tune-up before the MPSF Championships in Seattle, Feb. 23-24. The NCAA Indoor Championships are also set to take place in College Station, Texas, on March 9 and 10.

"The Don Kirby Invitational is a phenomenal meet and brings in some of the best teams in the country," UCI head coach Jeff Perkins said. "That is really where we can see what we stack up against in terms of national competition for indoor."

BACK TO SEATTLE
The 'Eaters make their second trip to the University of Washington at the end of February for the MPSF Championships. This marks the 16th-straight year the conference meet will be held at Dempsey Indoor.
