Men's Track & Field Adds 10 Newcomers for 2017-18

IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's track & field team will bring in 10 newcomers for the 2017-18 season head coach Jeff Perkins has announced.
 
"This class that we are bringing into the program adds depth and top-level talent to our already successful men's group," Perkins said. "We are excited to get them going and to see which ones will end up showing their talent not only on the conference level, but also on the national stage."

 
Asa Allen | Junior | Hurdles & Sprints | Merritt College/Berkeley HS
Asa Allen comes to UC Irvine from Merritt College (Oakland, Calif.), where he was a two-time state finalist and conference champion in the 110-meter hurdles. At the CCCAA State Championships, Allen claimed runner-up honors with a personal-record 13.99 as a sophomore and finished sixth overall as a freshman. He also won the 110H and took third in the 4x400 relay at the 2017 NorCal Championships.
 
Allen was a standout track & field athlete at Berkeley High School. He won both the 110H and 300H, while finishing second in the high jump at the league championships as a senior. Allen went on to post top-five finishes in all three events at the CIF-North Coast Section Bayshore Championships and competed at the NCS Meet of Champions.

Kit Carter | Freshman | Middle Distance | Poway HS
Kit (Kristopher) Carter was a member of the track and cross country teams at Poway High School. He finished seventh in both the 800m and 1600m at the 2017 CIF-San Diego Section Track & Field Finals. Carter was also a key member of the Titans' relay squads, including the 4x800 that ranked first in California and fifth in the nation (7:53.35). In cross country, Carter was a CIF State qualifier after finishing 18th at the San Diego Section Championships.

Seth Enochs | Freshman | Hurdles & Jumps | Yucca Valley HS
Seth Enochs was a three-year varsity letterwinner at Yucca Valley High School. He advanced to the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 meet each season, while winning back-to-back De Anza League titles in the 110-meter hurdles and long jump. In 2017, Enochs qualified for the CIF State Prelims in the long jump after placing seventh overall at the CIF-SS Masters Meet.

Stefon Goudeau | Sophomore | Sprints | University of Houston/Cathedral HS
Stefon Goudeau graduated from Cathedral High School (Los Angeles) in 2016. As a senior, he was a member of the Phantoms' school-record breaking 4x400 relay that finished first at the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 Finals and claimed runner-up honors at the CIF State Championships. Goudeau spent his first three years at Serra High School where he was a two-time CIF qualifier in the 400m. He was also part of the 4x400 that won the 2013 state title. Goudeau spent the 2016-17 season at Houston, but did not compete.

Jhamani Long | Junior | Sprints | Cerritos College/Gahr HS
Jhamani Long competed in track and cross country at Cerritos College. He was a CCCAA State Championship qualifier in the 4x400 relay as a sophomore. Long also won the 4x400 and finished seventh in the 800m at the So Cal Regional Championships.
 
Long prepped at Gahr High School where he was a CIF-Southern Section Division 3 qualifier in the 200m, 400m, 4x100 and 4x400. He was also a two-time All-San Gabriel Valley League performer in the 400m and was named to the Press-Telegram Dream Team.

Brandon Lucas | Junior | Sprints | Central Arizona/Poway HS
Brandon Lucas competed at Central Arizona College during the 2016 season. He advanced to the NJCAA Outdoor National Championships in the 400m and 4x100 relay. Lucas also claimed the 200m, 4x100 and 4x400 titles, while finishing third in the 100m, at the NJCAA Region I Track & Field Championships.
 
Lucas was a decorated sprinter at Poway High School. He finished among the top-eight at the CIF State Finals in the 100m (8th), 200m (5th) and 4x100 relay (6th) as a senior. He also won all three events at the CIF-San Diego Section Championships. As a junior, Lucas helped the 4x400 relay squad take sixth at the state championships, and advanced to the prelims in the 100m and 200m. In addition, he claimed back-to-back Palomar League titles in the short sprints.

Kyle Sandoval | Freshman | Hurdles | Servite HS
Kyle Sandoval prepped at Servite High School where he competed in the hurdles and relays. He was a two-time Trinity League champion in the 110-meter hurdles, and a member of the 4x400 that took home the league crown in 2017. As a senior, he also claimed the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 title and went on to finish 11th at the CIF State Championships. Sandoval added a fourth-place showing in the 300m hurdles and a seventh-place showing in the 4x400 at the CIF-SS meet to help the Friars win the team championship.

Kyle Tsu | Freshman | Throws | Marina HS
Kyle Tsu is a product of Marina High School where he won the shot put at the 2017 Sunset League Championships, CIF-Southern Section Division 2 Finals and CIF Masters Meet. He went on to finish fourth overall at the state championships. Tsu added a top-10 finish in the discus at the CIF-SS meet. Earlier in his senior campaign, he was named the Field Athlete of the Meet at the OC Championships after taking first in the shot put and third in the discus.

Ian Ward | Freshman | Hurdles | Servite HS
Ian Ward was a three-year varsity letterwinner at Servite High School. In his senior campaign, he was named the Trinity League Track Athlete of the Year after leading the Friars to the team title with victories in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, and runner-up finishes in the 110H/300H at the league finals. He also went on to help Servite to a CIF-Southern Section Division 3 championship, placing among the top-eight in all four events. Ward was the 300H league champion as a sophomore.

Xavier Weaver | Freshman | Middle Distance | Franklin HS
Xavier Weaver competed in both cross country and track at Franklin High School in Elk Grove, Calif. As a senior, he finished seventh in the 800m at the CIF State Championships. Prior to that, he won the event at the Delta League Finals, Sac-Joaquin Section Finals and Masters Meet. Weaver also claimed the league title in the 800m as a junior and was a two-time champion in the 4x400 relay. In cross country, he posted back-to-back top-25 finishes at the league meet and was a two-time Sac-Joaquin Section qualifier.
