No. 6 UC Irvine Blanks No. 21 Loyola Marymount, 12-0 On Senior Night

IRVINE, Calif. – No. 6 UC Irvine sent the senior class out in style with a 12-0 victory over No. 21 Loyola Marymount In the regular season finale at the Anteater Aquatics Complex Friday night.
It is the second shutout in program history with the first coming on Mar. 8, 2013 with a 14-0 win over Occidental.
Seniors McKenna Mitchell (2), Cambria Shockley (2), Gabby Pierandozzi (1) and Mackenzie Milham (1) scored in their final home game, while senior goalkeeper Annika Nelson had nine saves.
UCI also collected goals from Natalie Seidemann (2), Mary Brooks (1), Corinna Toledo (1), Cara Borkovec (1) and Julie Swieca (1).
McKenna Mitchell drew an exclusion and Gabby Pieradozzi took advantage, scoring UCI's first goal at 7:09 then a minute later Cambria Shockley had a skip shot go in the goal at 6:09. Mitchell had a perfect pass to Mary Brooks, who scored from two meters for the third goal of the quarter. The Anteaters rounded out the scoring on a goal by Corinna Toledo on a pass from Brooks at 1:20, 4-0.
Shockley would net her second goal at 7:30 of the second period before Annika Nelson would find Mackenzie Milham streaking down the right side where she fired a goal at 2:46. Mitchell would add the final goal of the half with five seconds left, extending UCI's advantage to 7-0 at the half.
Natalie Seidemann scored UCI's lone goal of the third quarter at 1:02. Mitchell (7:05), Cara Borkovec (4:18), Seidemann (3:16) and Julie Swieca (2:19) would round out the scoring in the final period.
The Anteaters will have a bye on the first day of the Big West Championship and resume action on April 29 in a semifinal game at 1:00 p.m. UCI, the Big West regular season champions and No. 1 seed, will face the winner of the Nos. 4 and 5 seeds.
