IRVINE, Calif. – No. 6 UC Irvine set a new school mark for most consecutive wins with an 8-2 victory over No. 13 UC Davis at the Anteater Aquatics Complex Saturday.

The Anteaters extended their winning streak to 10 in a row, breaking the old school record of nine set in 2012.

"The streak is nice, but what really matters is that these are important wins at this time of year for seeding in the Big West Tournament," head coach Dan Klatt said. "The record and 10 wins are exciting, but won't mean much if we don't win the next four."

UCI improves to 19-6 overall and remains undefeated in Big West action at 4-0. UC Davis goes to 14-16 overall and 2-3 in Big West games.

Gabby Pierandozzi and Mary Brooks had a team-high two goals each. McKenna Mitchell, Corrina Toledo Cambria Shockley and Cara Borkovec also scored a goal for the Anteaters.

Goalkeeper Annika Nelson recorded 12 saves, which ties her season-high.

Mary Brooks drew a penalty shot that McKenna Mitchell then skipped in the cage at 6:14 to put the Anteaters up 1-0. UCI used the power play as Gabby Pierandozzi scored at 3:04, 2-0. The Aggies then used a 6-5 advantage to get on the scoreboard at 1:40 on a Greta Kohlmoos goal from the left side.

In the second quarter, Corrina Toledo swam down the left side and scored at 4:32 before Cambria Shockley buried a goal in the back of the net from up top at 1:59 and Mary Brooks fired a penalty shot at 0:23. Nice passing between Toledo and Cara Borkovec led to a Borkovec goal with five ticks left to extend the Anteater lead to 6-1 at the half.

Pierandozzi scored again at 5:21 of the third quarter then Brooks scored her second at 2:18 to push the lead to 8-1. A UC Davis lob shot that trickled in to the goal by Paige Virgil with 19 seconds left in the third quarter made the score 8-2.

UCI goalkeeper Annika Nelson stopped a penalty shot to start the final quarter (7:43) and that was the extent of the excitement as neither team netted a goal in the final eight minutes.

UCI will travel to Long Beach State next Thursday (Apr. 20) for a 7:00 p.m. game then return home for the regular season finale against Loyola Marymount Friday (Apr. 21) at 7:00 p.m. at the Anteater Aquatics Complex.
