Mario Ortiz Brings Home Big West Offensive Player of the Week

IRVINE, Calif. --- For the fourth time this season, an Anteater was named Big West Player of the Week as Mario Ortiz won the first of his career.
The senior midfielder was very instrumental in the team's four-point week scoring a home win against Cal Poly and draw against UC Santa Barbara. Ortiz earned two assists vs. Cal Poly helping the opener home in the second minute and adding a second assist on the match's final goal. He then converted his first career penalty kick to open the scoring against UCSB which held up as the lone score in the 1-1 draw.
Ortiz's three goals, five assists, and 11 points all rank third on the squad as he's now up to seven goals, eight assists, and 22 points over his career.
The 'Eaters have four players of the week of record this season, three on the offensive end with Luis Leon in the opening weekend and Giovanni Godoy to close non-conference play. Daniel Crisostomo remains the lone defensive winner sharing the week with Godoy.
The 'Eaters begin the second leg of their Big West South push this week with a home match, Wednesday, Oct. 11, vs. UC Riverside followed by a trip to CSUN on Saturday, Oct. 14
