Women's Cross Country Finishes Eighth at Big West Championships

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The UC Irvine women's cross country team finished eighth overall at the Big West Championships Saturday morning at the UCR Ag/Ops Course.
Sophomore Anastasia Karnaze led the Anteaters for the fourth time this season. She covered the 6000-meter course in 22:22.4 to place 39th.
Sophomore Brenda Dorantes (22:28.8) and senior Jenessa Reyes (22:29.9) were not far behind in 41st and 42nd, respectively. Both of their times were season bests.
Sophomore Keely Boyd was UCI's No. 4 runner, clocking in at 23:39.1 (57th), while junior Megan Mirkhanian rounded out the team's scorers in 60th (24:05.3).
Senior Olympia Martinez (24:48.6) and freshman Amy Flores (26:01.4) also competed for the 'Eaters.
UC Santa Barbara (45) edged out Cal Poly (47) by two points to claim the Big West team title. Cal State Fullerton took third and host UC Riverside was fourth. The Gauchos' Jenna Hinkle was the individual champion at 20:17.1.
UC Irvine now has a couple weeks to prepare for the NCAA West Regional in Seattle, Wash., on Friday, Nov. 10.
