SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's tennis team had three players reach the Round of 64 on the opening day of the ITA Southwest Regional Championships Thursday at Barnes Tennis Center.
 
Sophomore Jacqueline Tsodikova won her first-round match against Sofiya Gaisina of Loyola Marymount, 5-3, ret., before dropping a 6-1, 6-4 decision to Grand Canyon's Martina Lo Pumo.
 
Sophomore Arianna Tilbury outlasted Skayla Alcon of CSUN, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4, but was unable to pull off an upset in the Round of 64 as she came up short against 96th-ranked Palina Dubavets (UC Santa Barbara). Freshman Flora Amiri, who received a first-round bye, also fell to Pepperdine's Laura Gulbe.
 
Sophomore Gillian Parker suffered a hard-fought 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 setback to Cal State Fullerton's Jadie Acidera, while freshman Clair Dean and sophomore Yulin Chen were eliminated in straight sets. It was Chen's first collegiate match.
 
The Anteaters also had three doubles teams in action but could not get in the win column.
 
UC Irvine will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 20, with consolation matches starting at 9 a.m.
