RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- UC Irvine All-American David Smith and the U.S. men's volleyball team rallied from an 0-2 deficit to beat Russia, 23-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-13 to capture the bronze medal at Maracanazinho Arena Sunday.

It was the fifth men's volleyball meda all-time, the second bronze to go with three gold medals. The U.S. men went 5-3 at the Rio Olympic Games, including a victory over gold medal winners Brazil.

Smith, who is in his second Olympic games, was a member of UCI's first national championship team in 2007.
