No. 5 UC Irvine Edged out by No. 12 UC Davis, 6-4

No. 5 UC Irvine (16-10, 2-2) kept a close match with No. 12 UC Davis (16-11, 2-3) but the Aggies were able to convert on an exclusion and a penalty in the final minutes to earn the 6-4 win.
UC Davis was the first on the board scoring a goal on a penalty play to give the Aggies the early lead. The Anteaters answered back late in the first quarter when Destene Albers scored with 1:51 left on the clock ending the first in a 1-1 tie.
The defense was put into action in the first quarter as goalkeeper Annika Nelson recorded three saves and Aggie's goalkeeper Haley Cameron also recorded three, including one on an exclusion, to keep the scores low.
The Anteaters took the lead in the second quarter as Hanna Lancaster converted on an exclusion to put UCI on top 2-1. UC Davis answered right back twenty seconds later with a goal by Carla Kohlmoos.
UC Irvine continued to push with a goal by Corinna Toledo but the Aggies would score two more times to end the half up 4-3.
The score remained unchanged in the third quarter as Nelson recorded two more saves and the Aggies were able to stop four including a penalty shot.
Gabby Pierandozzi tied it up for the 'Eaters three minutes into the final period, 4-4. Nelson recorded three more saves in the fourth quarter to give the junior double digits with ten in the game, but UC Davis was able to score twice in the final minutes giving them the lead and eventual win. The Aggies capitalized on an exclusion with 3:07 left in the game and then got off a penalty shot in the final five seconds to end up 6-4.
