IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine's Melanie Speech and Elizabeth Cotociu compete in the heptathlon Thursday and Friday at the UC Riverside Spring Classic.
Thursday's action includes competition in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200 meters, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
Friday's events are the long jump, javelin and 800 meters, also starting at 12:00 p.m.
Speech, a senior, was a redshirt last year. She finished fifth in the 2014 Big West Conference Heptathlon with 4,672 points in the competition at Davis.
Cotociu, a junior transfer from Golden West College, placed fifth in the heptathlon at the California Community College Championships last year.
The team competition in the UC Riverside Spring Classic begins Friday with the hammer throw at 3:00 p.m.
On Saturday, field events start at 10:00 a.m. with the first event on the track at 1:00 p.m.
The Anteaters won six events, set two school records and finished second in the UCI Spring Break Invitational last weekend.
