No. 14 Hawaii Dominates The Net To Blank UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. – No. 14 Hawaii dominated the net and ran an efficient offense to sweep UC Irvine , 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-18) at the Bren Events Center.
After out-blocking the last five opponents, UCI watched league-leading Hawaii (19-5, 12-1) record 14 blocks to the Anteaters' one. Hawaii hit .382 (40-6-89), while UCI hit at a .067 (28-21-105) clip.
UC Irvine (10-17, 5-8) was led by opposite Harlee Kekauoha's nine kills followed by middle blocker Danielle Geiger with five kills. Setter Shelley Anderson had 23 set assists and seven digs and libero Luna Tsujimoto had a team-high 11 digs.
UH's Annie Mitchem and Nikki Taylor did not commit an error between them. Mitchem hit .481 with 13 kills, two aces and four blocks and Taylor hit .733 on 11 kills and 15 attempts, plus added nine digs and seven blocks. Emily Maglio rejected nine block assists.
UCI went on a 3-1 run which included an ace by Shelley Anderson to keep the first set close early, 10-9. The Rainbow Wahine would then return the favor with a 7-1 spurt to break open the set 17-10. UH would win the set 25-14, hitting .444 to UCI's -.036.
Hawaii jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the second set and cruised to a 25-13 victory. The Rainbow Wahine locked down the net with six blocks during the set.
The Rainbow Wahine would build a 17-9 advantage in the third set. A block by Harlee Kekauoha and Makayla Wolfe made it 23-16 and the teams would side-out to end the set 25-18.
UCI now heads out on the road to visit UC Davis next Saturday (Nov. 19).
