'Eaters Slighted by Huskies, 2-0

Box Score

PORTLAND, Ore. --- Women's soccer kept up with Washington Sunday afternoon in Merlo Field, but fell short of the net losing 2-0 to the Huskies to finish the Nike Portland Invitational.

UW (6-1-0) got on the board in the fifth minute following a brilliant through ball by Rachel Wheeler to Shannon Simon whose finish slipped through keeper Corey Tobin to make it 1-0 Huskies.

The squads held even possession throughout the first half and even put up four shots each despite the one-goal margin.

UC Irvine (3-4-1) got an early opportunity to tie it up from a 58th-minute header by Alex Karlowitsch that fell right into Husky keeper Megan Kufeld's arms.

Washington took advantage and stretched the lead to 2-0 in the 68th minute as Wheeler put home a goal of her own and putting the match out of reach.

The 'Eaters put two of their six shots on target while UCI keeper Corey Tobin stopped a pair on her end.

Coach Juniper and the crew head back out on the road next weekend as well with a trip to Florida to face Florida International, Friday, Sept. 18, and slide over to Florida Atlantic on Sunday, Sept. 20.
