IRVINE, Calif. --- Optimism abounds with a brilliant new striker for the Anteaters, Andrew Guerrero.
Guerrero hails from Colton, Calif. where he went to Rialto High School and led the program and league in scoring while reaching the school's farthest point with a CIF semifinals appearance. He brought home first team honors in All-CIF and all-league as well as being named Daily Bulletin Player of the Year.
"I have read and heard many great things about UCI," Guerrero voiced. "It has some of the best athletics and academics in the state and country."
Club soccer revolved around Fullerton Rangers as well as FC Man United winning back-to-back Cal South National Cups in addition to back-to-back National League runner-up finishes and a National Championship semifinalist finish in 2014.
"Andrew is a strong, powerful striker that is a proven goal scorer," noted Head Coach Chris Volk. "He has the ability to beat defenders off the dribble as well as strike on goal from distance. His Fullerton Rangers coach, Jimmy Obleda, has instilled a work ethic and passion in Andrew to be a top level striker."
His play brought him to Mexico on a trial with Chivas Guadalajara where he suited up for the '97s select team in Copa Chivas.
"I Iook forward to the experience of living on my own and maturing while taking in a great education. I am eager to join the team and build a bond with new teammates."
"Andrew will have the opportunity to compete right away and help fill the void of the senior forwards from last season."
Guerrero has made strides off the pitch as well collected such accolades as the Ken Hubbs Foundation and Teens Make a Difference awards in addition to graduating with honors and avid recognition. He even spent time as a referee for youth soccer.
"I am an optimistic person and always eager to learn new things that will benefit me now and in the future. I believe this will be an amazing opportunity being exposed to an entirely different atmosphere."
