
Ariel Cheng Places 3rd in Big West Pole Vault

RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Sophomore Ariel Cheng led UC Irvine Friday with a third-place finish in the pole vault at the Big West Conference Track & Field Championships in Riverside.
Cheng registered a mark of 12-4 in the competition at the UCR Track Facility.
Junior Kelly Magana also earned team points for UCI with a seventh-place finish of 118-11 in the javelin throw.
Danika Hitchcock finished 10th in the long jump at 17-0 ½ and Lucy Phan was 15th in the pole vault with a mark of 11-4 ¼. Bridget Devaney placed 17th in the discus throw at 135-4.
The Anteaters are tied for sixth place with eight points entering the final day of competition Saturday.
Moving on to the finals Saturday following Friday's prelims are Megan George (13.73) and Tyra Jones (14.30) in the 100-meter hurdles, Persis William-Mensah (11.83) in the 100 meters and Kaulyn Lee-McNeill (61.46) in the 400-meter hurdles.
Field events begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday with the first running event at 2:08 p.m.
FOX Prime Ticket will air Saturday's competition from 2:00-6:00 p.m.
