IRVINE, Calif. --- UCI's solid start wilted away in the end in a 4-3 loss to Binghamton Tuesday morning at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
Doubles play came down to the last set as No. 2 duo Jonathan Hammel and Tyler Pham playing out a 7-5 win for the 1-0 advantage for UC Irvine (17-12, 2-1).
The 'Eaters even scored two of the first three singles points courtesy of Jonathan Poon and Caryl Hernandez.
Binghamton (5-14) held it together however winning four of the six opening sets and steadily climbing back into the match. Ismael Dinia recovered to take a three-set point at No. 3 singles to spark the Bearcats, and No. 2 Robin Lesage toughed out a 7-5, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles to clinch the match.
Despite now losing three of its last four, the Anteaters can now turn their focus to its final two matches, both Big West contests, beginning Friday, Apr. 17, with a 1:00 p.m. home match against Hawai'i.
