No. 4 'Eaters Prevail in Double Overtime, 2-1

LAS VEGAS, Nev. --- Nervous moments for the fourth-ranked Anteaters were quashed by Gor Kirakosyan and Eduardo Calzada as they defeated Utah Valley, 2-1, in double overtime as part of the UNLV Rebel Classic.

The 'Eaters and Wolverines traded punches in the first half. Utah Valley (4-3-0) managed five shots with three on target through the opening period. UCI (8-0-1) came back with a flurry in the final minute as Cameron Iwasa and Lester Hayes III crashed the net, but Wolverine keeper Collin Partee kept them out as the match remained scoreless at the half.

The Wolverines struck first drawing a foul and burying a penalty kick in the 52nd minute via Matt Gay to make it 1-0, UVU.

The 'Eaters rallied back earning possession down the stretch and tying it in the 80th minute as an Iwasa pass found Gor Kirakosyan who redirected it in to make it 1-1.

The match would go into overtime with the 'Eaters sporting a 16-11 shot advantage including six saves from 'Eater keeper Michael Breslin.

After one total shot in the first overtime period, Eduardo Calzada buried the game-winner in the 103rd minute off a long entry pass surprising Partee for the 2-1 victory.

The goal for Calzada was his second game-winner of the season. He and Kirakosyan stand atop the squad totals with five goals each.

UCI completes its non-conference slate going unbeaten at 8-0-1. The 'Eaters are back at it next weekend to begin Big West play with trips to Cal Poly (Thursday, Oct. 2) and UCSB (Saturday, Oct. 4).
