IRVINE, Calif. -- The Bren Events Center will host the final match of the USA Volleyball Cup, a series of four exhibition matches between the U.S. Men's National Team and Iran, on August 16 at 6:00 p.m. To purchase tickets, click here.
The match at the Bren Center will replace Pauley Pavilion, which could not be used after a water main break flooded the facility.
USA Volleyball has also announced the 14-person roster for the first match against Iran on Aug. 9 at the Galen Center which features former UC Irvine All-Americans David Smith and Carson Clark.
Smith, a 2012 Olympian, earned first-team All-American honors in 2007 while helping UC Irvine to its first NCAA Championship. As a senior, the middle blocker led the nation with a .559 hitting percentage, a UCI season record. He is the UCI career block assists (471) and total blocks leader (520).
Clark was a member of two of UCI's national Championships (2009, 2012), earning Most Outstanding Player honors of the of the 2012 NCAA Championship. The opposite became the first player in MPSF history to be named to the league's first-team all four years and made UCI history becoming the first Anteater to earn AVCA All-American honors all four years. He ended his career as UCI's all-time leader in kills with 1,847.
The four matches will help both teams prepare for the 2014 FIVB Men's World Championship on Aug. 30-Sept. 21 in Poland.
