No. 6 'Eaters Drop Aggies, 8-2

IRVINE, Calif. --- The Anteaters returned to the mainland for more Big West action and delivered an 8-2 defeat to the 16th-ranked UC Davis Aggies Saturday at Anteater Aquatics Complex.
No. 6 UCI (18-6, 2-0) shut down the Aggie attack in the first half not allowing a goal. Jessy Cardey converted on the power play in the first period, and Jillian Yocum hit a wide open Emily Carlson in transition who skipped home a shot in the final minutes of the first half to give UCI its 2-0 lead.
UC Davis (11-14, 0-3) knocked the 'Eaters back to start the second half with a pair of goals from Elsie Fullerton and Keelia Houston in the first 1:06 of the third period to tie the match up.
The Anteaters, specifically Kelsey Thornton, responded with a pair of goals to get the lead back. Jillian Yocum and the Anteater defense would shut the Aggies out the rest of the way and pick up the 8-2 victory.
Yocum finished with 10 saves in addition to her assist on Carlson's goal while also lowering her goals-against-average. The other Jillian, Jillian Wilding, came away with 13 saves for the Aggies.
Thornton added a goal in final period to lead all scorers with three on the day in addition to earning an exclusion and a steal. Danielle Warde had a pair of helpers and steals as well as one goal.
For the Anteaters, they take a break of Big West action and step into the spotlight with a 3:00 p.m. match at No. 3 USC on Sunday, April 5 which will be telecast on the Pac-12 Network.
