IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine hosts the 20th annual adidas/Steve Scott Invitational this Friday and Saturday (May 2-3) at Anteater Stadium.
Field events begin at 2:00 p.m. Friday with the first track event at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, both the field and track events start at 12 noon.
A rivalry is expected to be renewed in the 800 meters as former Big West Conference competitors Charles Jock (UCI) and Ryan Martin (UCSB) are entered in that event that begins at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The duo had four memorable 800-meter races in the Big West Championships from 2009-12 with each winning twice. Jock holds the Anteater Stadium record of 1:44.75 that he recorded in edging Martin (1:44.77) for the 2012 conference title.
Also entered Saturday is world-record holder Aries Merritt in the 110-meter hurdles (12.80 in 2012). He won the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
The meet is named for Steve Scott, a three-time Olympian and six-time All-American in track and cross country at UCI. He has run 136 sub-4 minute miles in his career.
A member of the United States Track & Field Hall of Fame, Scott currently is head track/cross country coach at Cal State San Marcos.

A Parking Advisory has been issued for the Mesa Parking Structure Saturday due to multiple events within the UC Irvine Athletics Complex. Fans are encouraged to plan their time accordingly. Parking for UCI home athletic events is $10.00.
