No. 5 UCI Struggles to Figure Out No. 4 Cal

IRVINE, Calif. --- The 'Eaters finished day one of the UC Irvine Invitational at 1-1 after a 12-6 defeat to Cal in the evening match at Anteater Aquatics Complex.
UCI (10-5) started strong keeping pace with Cal after a period. Danielle Warde had a pair of goals and the squads went into the second period in a 2-2 match.
Cal forged onward taking a three-goal lead into the half after UCI misfired hitting the bar on multiple occasions.
Cambria Shockley came alive late with a pair of goals, but could not close the gap and the 'Eaters dropped from championship contention.
Jillian Yocum had seven saves on the night while nine goal scorers from Cal paced them.
UCI will take on Cal State Northridge Sun. Feb. 23 at 8:00 a.m. for a possible spot in the fifth-place match later on.
