No. 6 'Eaters Open UCSB Invite with Pair of Wins

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- UCI women's water polo started 2014 off right with a pair of wins over Cal Baptist and No. 8 San Jose State in day one of the UCSB Winter Invite Saturday.
The afternoon match against the sixth-ranked Spartans didn't start out as hot with SJSU (6-1) opening the game with the first three goals. Down by a goal after one, UCI found its rhythm to go ahead 7-4 at halftime en route to an 11-6 victory.
Cardey recorded her second four-goal match of the day. Croghan supplied another hat trick while Michaela Pierandozzi snapped home two goals, her second feat of the day. Keeper Jillian Yocum added 11 saves as well.
The 'Eaters finish up in Santa Barbara with Cal State Monterey Bay at 9:30 a.m. and end with a 1:50 p.m. match with No. 4 Arizona State.
