- UC Irvine opens the Big West Conference schedule on the road at Cal Poly Friday (Sept. 27) and UC Santa Barbara Saturday (Sept. 28).
- The Anteaters currently sit in third with an overall record of 9-5. Cal Poly is seventh at 7-6 while the Gauchos are eighth at 5-7.
ALL-TOURNAMENT HAT-TRICK FOR SQUIRES
- Aly Squires was voted to her third all-tournament team after leading UCI with 50 kills and finishing second with 44 digs.
- The outside hitter is third in the Big West with a 3.39 kill average and has posted seven double-double (kills/digs) matches this year.
- Squires leads UCI with 190 kills and is second with 152 digs.
DIGGIN' DAVIS
- Arden Davis led UCI with 91 digs in four matches, averaging 5.69 per set last week.
- She picked up a career-high 32 digs in the win against Xavier to tie for sixth in the UCI single-match records with Kristin Winkler (2010) and Brenda Waterman (2003).
- Davis, who has amassed 154 digs this year, is third in the conference with a 3.95 average.
FLEMING JUMPS TO SECOND IN BLOCKS
- Shannon Fleming moved from fifth to second in the Big West in blocking after putting up 23 total blocks and averaging 1.44 per set last week.
- Fleming recorded a season-high seven block assists against Xavier and has had four or more block assists in four of the last six matches.
- With her performance last week, Fleming became the sixth Anteater to reach 300 career block assists and sits sixth with 308. She needs just five to past alumna, Sami Cash, who posted 312 from 2001-04.
- Fleming also fired six aces last week to bring her season total to a team-leading 18.
MANZ TIES CAREER-HIGH
- Arielle Manz posted a career-high with eight total blocks against Xavier, logging seven block assists and a solo stuff.
- The middle blocker compiled 18 blocks in four matches while adding 28 kills, fourth-best on the team last week.
- She is fourth in the Big West in blocking at 1.11.
ANDERSON ANSWERS THE CALL
- Shelley Anderson continues to secure the starting spot at setter and has climbed to eighth in the Big West with a 8.29 average.
- The freshman has also put away 34 kills and picked up 105 digs while averaging 1.88 per set.
- She is one of three players to record 100 or more digs this season and is second on the team with 13 aces.
LEE RETURNS TO SAN LUIS OBISPO
- Allison Lee will make a trip to her former stomping grounds for the first time this season. Lee, who transferred from Cal Poly, sat out last season due to transfer rules.
- The outside hitter put away 41 kills and had 33 digs to go along with four aces in three matches last week.
- She reached double-digit kills in all three contests and posted a career-high 17 digs in the effort against Fresno State.
ABOUT CAL POLY
- Cal Poly is 6-7 overall and won two straight to halt a five-match losing streak.
- The Mustangs are led by Chelsea Hardin, who has 145 kills and a 2.96 average.
- Cal Poly is edging the competition in digs at 13.64-13.16 and aces at 1.37-1.24.
- The Mustangs own a 37-21 series lead but the Anteaters have won the last three matches.
ABOUT UC SANTA BARBARA
- UC Santa Barbara is 5-7 overall and snapped a three-match losing streak with a pair of wins over the weekend.
- The Gauchos are paced by Leah Sully, who has 135 kills and 144 digs. Ali Spindt tops the team in blocks with 23.
- UC Santa Barbara holds a commanding 65-9 lead in the series against UCI. The two teams split in 2012 with each team winning on its home court.
