No. 6 Anteaters Defeat Big West foe Gauchos, 14-10

LA JOLLA, Calif. --- UCI women's water polo continued to march through the UCSD Triton Invite following a 14-10 win over No. 13 UCSB Saturday night at Triton Pool.
The two squads were in a hard-fought battle through one period. No. 13 UCSB kept with the No. 6 Anteaters trailing just 4-3. Kelsey Klatt and McKenna Mitchell scored a pair of goals each to pace UCI (6-2).
The 'Eaters erupted in the second period for five goals while shutting down the Gauchos at the same time to increase the lead to 9-3.
UCSB would close the gap in the fourth period with six goals of its own, but it wasn't enough as UC Irvine finished them off with a 14-10 triumph.
Kelsey Klatt lead the charge with a hat trick for UCI. Three players added a pair of goals with nine players scoring overall.
UC Irvine will get its grudge match against No. 5 Arizona State on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. looking to knock off the Sun Devils in day two of the UCSD Triton Invite.
