DROP SHOTS

Kristina Smith became the first 'Eater to take down a ranked opponent this season with a straight-set win over No. 118 Klara Vyskocilova of Tulane.

UCI's most success has come from the No. 4 position where it is 4-2.

UCI's win over LMU was the first where it took the doubles point.

UCI's schedule features eight ranked schools including UCLA, USC twice, Pepperdine, LSU, Tulane, Wyoming, and Big West opponents Long Beach State and Hawaii. UCI is currently 1-3 against them.

Five of UCI's opponents sport ranked singles players totaling 13 players in all.

Four of UCI's opponents claim ranked doubles pairs totaling eight duos in all.

UCI players are 1-5 against ranked opponents and winless against ranked pairs so far.

BREAK POINTS

UCI looks to reach the Big West final for the 10th time in the last 14 years.

Kristina Smith leads all active Anteaters with 58 career dual match wins and 43 career doubles wins. She is currently 15th in singles wins and 14th in doubles wins all-time.

STRAIGHT SETS

Marivick Mamiit has won nine of her last 12 matches dating back to 2012.

Kristina Smith has won six of her last eight matches dating back to 2012. She was the lone Anteater to beat a ranked opponent in 2012 when she swept No. 117 Julia Wais of SDSU on Feb. 18th.

UCI used 13 different doubles pairs in 2012. Eight of those pairs spent just one match together.

CHANGE OVERS

Sarah Gong's singles win against San Jose State was the first of her career. She leads all 'Eaters to date with four singles wins.

Sarah Stadfelt won her first career singles match against UCLA. She also won her first career doubles match on against SJSU.

FALL RECAP

UCI enjoyed a beneficial fall slate in the Cal State Fullerton Intercollegiate and UH Rainbow invitationals.

Sarah Gong was the B Flight singles runner-up of the CSUF Intercollegiates. She finished the fall season with an 8-2 record.

Sarah Stadfelt defeated Nakisa Vahdat to claim the CSUF Intercollegiate C Flight singles title. Stadfelt finished the fall at 7-2 while Vahdat went 5-3.

Stadfelt partnered with Marivick Mamiit to win the CSUF Intercollegiate B Flight doubles championship. They went 9-0 as a duo in the fall.

Other notable fall marks were Alison Klein (5-3), Marivick Mamiit  (4-3), and Ali Facey (4-3). In doubles, A. Facey/Schweyer and Klein/Vahdat each went 3-2.

COASTAL CLASH

The Pepperdine Waves are currently ranked 33rd despite an 0-2 opening to its season with losses to ranked USC and Fresno State squads. The Waves finished 2012 16-9 and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. They also edged UCI slightly 4-3 in a match played at UCI in 2012.

Pepperdine touts two ranked singles and one ranked doubles pair. Khunpak Issara and Lorraine Guillermo make up all of those spots. Guillermo is coming in at No. 104 trailed Issara's No. 92 ranking. The pair together are ranked No. 4 in doubles.

They have won their lone doubles match, but each are off to 1-1 starts in singles.

EYEING THE TIGERS

The LSU Tigers will visit UC Irvine on Monday with a ranking of No. 46. The Tigers are 3-0 early in 2013 including a win against SMU, an opponent slated to visit UCI in early March. LSU was  11-13 in 2012 earning a spot in the NCAAs despite an early exit.

Kaitlin Burns leads the squad as its No. 1 currently 2-1 through the early going sporting a No. 112 ranking. The Tigers have been strong in Nos. 4, 5 & 6 with a combined 9-0 record.

Before heading to UCI, LSU will visit to familiar opponents in Tulane and Long Beach State.
