SHAEFFER NAMED ESPN ZONE ANAHEIM ANTEATER OF THE WEEK

Irvine, Calif. -- UC Irvine men's baseball player Ronnie Shaeffer has been named this week's ESPN Zone Anaheim Anteater of the Week.

The senior catcher from Garden Grove had a huge weekend against the visiting California Golden Bears. He put up nine hits and six RBI in the four game series, including a game-winning RBI and a game-winning run as UC Irvine went 3-1 against the Golden Bears.  Shaeffer was named the Big West and College Sports Madness Player of the Week for his efforts. On Tuesday, he continued his hot hitting at Loyola Marymount going 3 for 5, while a launching his second home run of the season, while knocking in three runs in the 10-3 victory over the Lions. Currently, Shaeffer leads the 'Eaters in batting (.486), home runs (2), and RBI's (12).

The No. 21 Anteaters (7-1) host Portland in a four-game series this weekend, beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m
