
Anteaters Log 14 Wins, 2013 Season Comes To A Close

- Four Anteaters were named to the All-Big West Touranament team: Aly Squires, Marisa Bubica, Shelley Anderson and Cassidy Pickrell
- UC Irvine finishes the season 14-16 overall and 5-11 in the Big West to place seventh.
- The 14 victories are three better than 2012 and a four-game improvement from 2011.
- The Anteaters posted a season-best 106 digs in the effort against Cal Poly last week.
- Five players reached double-figures in digs with Shelley Anderson (career-high) and Arden Davis each picking up 19.
- UCI concluded the regular season ranked first in the conference and 38th in the nation in aces at 1.49.
- The team was also 50th in the country in digs (16.29) and second in the Big West in opponent hitting percentage at .197.
- UCI enjoyed a five-match win streak for a season-best this year.
FLEMING FINISHES SECOND IN UCI RECORDS
- Shannon Fleming amassed 349 career block assists to finish second in the UCI annals behind Kris Roberts, who had 377 from 1985-88.
- Fleming is currently 34th in the country in aces per set at .39.
- With 46 aces this year, Fleming etched her name into the UCI single season top 10 at No. 7.
- She did not register an ace in the final match against UCSB, snapping a 22-match streak of at least one ace.
SQUIRES LEAVES MARK
- Aly Squires leaves UCI with the fourth-best mark in career attempts with 4,291.
- She also sits among the top Anteaters in career kills with 1,271 and can be found in the No. 7 spot.
- With 1,038 digs, Squires is ninth in career scoops.
- She is a three-time All-Big West honorable mention choice and was voted to seven all-tournament teams in the last two years.
- Squires had a team-leading 337 kills this year and was second with 309 digs.
BUBICA FINISHES AT THE TOP
- Redshirt sophomore Marisa Bubica averaged 3.00 kills per set to lead the Anteaters.
- She is ninth in the Big West in kill average and eighth in points at 3.52 per set.
- She tied a career-high with 21 kills in the win against Utah Valley.
- She was also fourth on the team with 17 aces, recording a career-best three aces three times.
FRESHMAN TRIO IMPRESSES
- Shelley Anderson, Cassidy Pickrell and Arden Davis all had solid freshman campaigns for UCI.
- Anderson, who finished the season seventh in the conference in assists at 8.97, handed out 1,050 assists.
- She finished third in aces with 28 and sits in the 10th spot in the Big West with a .24 average.
- Anderson had a career-best 55 assists against Utah Valley with a personal-best 19 digs against Cal Poly.
- An attack-minded setter, Anderson also put away a career-high six kills on five different occasions.
- Davis averaged 3.77 digs per set to sit fifth in the conference.
- The libero had a team-leading 377 digs, picking up a career-high 32 digs against Xavier.
- Pickrell was third on the team with 245 kills and a 2.69 average.
- The outside hitter fired 29 aces for a .32 average, fourth-best in the conference and posted three aces on five occasions.
- The Texas native recorded a personal-best 25 kills against Cal State Fullerton and logged two double-double (kills/digs) matches this year.

BREAKOUT YEAR FOR MANZ
- Arielle Manz had her best year for the Anteaters as a threat at the net.
- The middle blocker combined for 23 kills last week to go along with 10 digs and 11 total blocks.
- She 12 kills for a season-high against Cal Poly and also notched a career-high nine block assists in the win against UC Davis earlier this year.
- She led UCI with 132 total blocks on 120 block assists and 12 solo stuffs while chipping in 163 kills and 59 digs.
- With 120 block assists, Manz can be found in the UCI single-season records in the fifth spot.
DIGGIN' THE D
- Molly Yoder and Hannah Nabbout also contributed to UCI's defense this year.
- Yoder reached the 200-dig mark for the second straight year with 222 digs in 2013.
- The junior had a season-best 17 digs against UC Davis and reached double-figures in digs seven times.
- Nabbout logged 190 digs, averaging 1.83 per set.
- Posting double-digit digs in six matches, Nabbout had a season-best 16 digs against Cleveland State.
