
Isaiah Thompson Top Freshman in Big West

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine's Isaiah Thompson was named Big West Conference Freshman of the Year in men's cross country, announced by the league office Wednesday.
Thompson, from Riverside (Sherman Indian HS), was UCI's top runner and the first freshman finisher at last Saturday's Big West Championship with a 13th-place time of 26:23.9 over 8,000 meters at the Fairbanks Memorial Cross Country Course in San Luis Obispo.
He placed 15th at the Highlander Invitational Oct. 19 and 21st at the Mustang Challenge Division I Invite Sept. 21.
Thompson is UCI's first Big West Freshman of the Year in men's cross country.
"I'm very happy for Isaiah," UCI head coach Vince O'Boyle said. "He has worked hard this season in moving up on our team and he deserves this award."
The 'Eaters compete in the NCAA West Regional Nov. 15 at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento.
