HEADERS

FREE KICKS

  • UCI defeated sixth-ranked BYU in Provo, Utah, the highest-ranked win in program history.
  • UCI and No. 12 Texas A&M played to a 0-0 draw in an exhibition match.
  • UC Irvine's non-conference schedule ranked as the ninth-toughest according to allwhitekit.com, and those opponents currently have a combined record of 77-58-17.
  • The Anteaters' schedule includes five schools currently in the top-80 RPI; Denver (13), BYU (20), Cal (26), Washington State (29), and Long Beach State (74).

IN THE BOX

  • UCI can finished no worse than third in the Big West. It can still claim the regular season title, but would need Cal Poly to lose each of its final two matches.
  • Six other schools can still lay claim to the final two tournament spots. Pivotal matchups between those squads include CSUF at LBSU Thursday night, and the UCR-LBSU and UCSB-UC Davis matches Sunday afternoon.
  • The Anteaters' +6 goal differential is tops in the Big West.
  • UCI was picked second, tied with LBSU, in the Big West Preseason Coaches poll behind favorite CSUF.

CORNERS

  • Five Anteaters have been named Big West Player of the Week in 2013. Jordan Bruce was named defensive player of the week for the third time on Oct. 28 alongside first-timer Laura McGrail named offensive POTW. Natalia Ledezma earned offensive honors the week of Sept. 16 along with Bruce's first defensive honor after defeating No. 6 BYU.
  • UC Irvine has now made the Big West Tournament field in six of Head Coach Scott Juniper's seven seasons.
  • The 'Eaters bring back six starters from the 2012 squad including preseason award-winners Natalia Ledezma, Haley O'Brien, and Corey Tobin.
  • Ledezma was named the preseason favorite for Big West Offensive Player of the Year according to collegesportsmadness.com.

IN THE BOOKS

  • Natalia Ledezma has inserted herself all along the Anteater record books. She became the 10th Anteater to reach 50 career points and stands sixth all-time alongside Stephanie Rigamat and Lori Muzzonigro with 55.
  • Ledezma's scored her 20th career goal vs. CSUN becoming the 10th Anteater to do so and tying her with Lexi Kopf for ninth in program history.
  • The goal was also her seventh career game-winning goal of the her career tying her again with Lori Muzzonigro for sixth. McGrail's six career game-winners tie her for seventh.
  • The game-winner was Ledezma's fourth of the season, the third-highest single season total.
  • Ledezma's 15 assists put her all alone in seventh.
  • Jenn Randazzo ranks fourth all-time with 22 goalkeeper wins tied with Amee Chapman. She also moves to a tie for sixth with 11 career shutouts.
  • Corey Tobin ranks eighth in program history with 11 wins.
  • Zoya Farzaneh played her 76th career match on Sunday, two away from cracking the top-ten.
  • Freshman Sammie James scored in the 81st minute against Cal, 30 seconds into her Anteater career.

FULLERTON FOOTNOTES

  • Cal State Fullerton comes into the final week of the season at 8-5-4, 3-2-1 in Big West play.
  • UCI is 7-10-4 all-time against CSUF, 3-5-2 at home. The squads met twice in 2012 with UCI winning at CSUF, 3-1, during the regular season, but falling in PKs in the Big West Tournament semifinal to end the season at Anteater Stadium.
  • CSUF has lost to common opponents BYU and Washington State while defeating LMU.
  • The Titans have travelled a tricky conference road with wins over UCSB and Hawaii while also losing to UCR and tying Cal State Northridge.
  • Erica Mazeau commands the stats leading the team with four goals, two game-winners, and five assists.
  • Lindsey Maricic has five wins in 15 starts. She leads the conference with a 0.68 goals-against-average and 79 saves.
  • CSUF was picked to win the conference in the preseason. A win against LBSU Thursday would clinch a tournament berth.
  • The Titans have only played one match in which more than three total goals were scored. Their matches have featured a shutout 12 times including a 1-0 score in each of the last four matches.

SOCCER AT THE NEXT LEVEL

  • CoCo Goodson was drafted by Sky Blue FC of the National Women's Soccer League based in New Jersey. Sky Blue FC fell 2-0 to Abby Wambach and Carli Lloyd of the Western New York Flash in the NWSL semifinals. During the season, Goodson scored one goal.
  • Rachel Wood joined club HK Kopavogur / Vikingur Reykjavik of Iceland. The club finished 5-13-2, ninth in the Urvalsdeild league. Wood scored her first professional goal Aug. 13th in the 51st minute against Thor / KA, and added a second in a 2-1 season finale win against Afturelding with the  eventual game-winner in the 42nd minute.
