HEADERS

FREE KICKS

  • UCI defeated sixth-ranked BYU in Provo, Utah, the highest-ranked win in program history.
  • UCI and No. 12 Texas A&M played to a 0-0 draw in an exhibition match.
  • UC Irvine's non-conference schedule ranked as the ninth-toughest according to allwhitekit.com, and those opponents currently have a combined record of 61-45-16.
  • The Anteaters' schedule includes five schools currently in the top-80 RPI; Denver (14), Cal (23), Washington State (28), BYU (33), and Long Beach State (78).

IN THE BOX

  • The conference returns its nine-team field playing eight matches each with the top four making the Big West Tournament that it was governed under from 2007-11.
  • From 2007-11, the benchmark that determined a team making the tournament nearly every time was 13 points. The lone year was 2009 when three schools finished with 13 and the tournament's final spot was awarded, via tiebreaker, to UC Irvine.
  • The seven combined goals against Cal Poly marked the third time since 2000 seven or more goals have been scored in a match. The four UCI goals were the most since Oct. 2011 in a 5-0 win vs. UC Riverside.
  • UCI was picked second, tied with LBSU, in the Big West Preseason Coaches poll behind favorite CSUF.

CORNERS

  • Two Anteaters have been named Big West Player of the Week in 2013. Jordan Bruce was named defensive player of the week for the second time on Oct. 14. She and Natalia Ledezma earned offensive and defensive honors the week of Sept. 16.
  • UC Irvine has made the Big West Tournament field in five of the six seasons under Head Coach Scott Juniper.
  • The 'Eaters bring back six starters from the 2012 squad including preseason award-winners Natalia Ledezma, Haley O'Brien, and Corey Tobin.
  • Ledezma was named the preseason favorite for Big West Offensive Player of the Year according to collegesportsmadness.com.

IN THE BOOKS

  • Natalia Ledezma has inserted herself all along the Anteater record books. She became the 10th Anteater to reach 50 career points and stands eighth all-time alongside Simone Ferrara with 53.
  • Ledezma's scored her 19th career goal vs. UC Riverside tying her for 10th in program history with Jaycee Leitner.
  • The goal was also her sixth career game-winning goal of the her career moving her into a tie for seventh all-time with four other Anteaters.
  • Ledezma's 15 assists put her all alone in seventh.
  • Jenn Randazzo ranks fourth all-time with 22 goalkeeper wins tied with Amee Chapman. She also moves to a tie for sixth with 11 career shutouts.
  • Corey Tobin scored two wins over the weekend giving her nine career victories, ranking her ninth in program history.
  • Zoya Farzaneh played her 73rd career match on Sunday. She stands five matches away from cracking the top ten.
  • Freshman Sammie James scored in the 81st minute against Cal, 30 seconds into her Anteater career.

BEACH BRIEFINGS

  • The 'Eaters are unbeaten in 16 of their last 18 home Big West matches.
  • All-time, UCI is 11-6-3 against Long Beach State, 7-2-1 at home. The 'Eaters have won the last four regular season matchups and are unbeaten in the last six (5-0-1).
  • Last season, UCI won 1-0 at LBSU on a Rachel Wood PK goal in the 110th minute of double OT.
  • The 49ers are 7-5-1 on the season with wins over ranked Texas Tech and BYU squads.
  • Each program has beaten LMU and BYU this season while each has lost at San Diego.
  • LBSU is 1-1-1 in the Big West losing the opener at Cal Poly followed by a win at UCSB and a 1-1 draw at home to UC Davis.
  • Mimi Rangel and Eileen Maes lead the way with three goals each. Elizabeth Lyons and Hannah Sanders each have two.
  • Rangel leads all 49ers with 10 points. Lyons has nine including a team-leading five assists.
  • Kaci McCain has been in net for 11 matches in 2013 recording all seven wins. She's allowed just 10 goals while stopping 36 shots.
  • LBSU matches have seen 77% of all goals scored after halftime (23 of 30).

SOCCER AT THE NEXT LEVEL

  • CoCo Goodson was drafted by Sky Blue FC of the National Women's Soccer League based in New Jersey. Sky Blue FC fell 2-0 to Abby Wambach and Carli Lloyd of the Western New York Flash in the NWSL semifinals. During the season, Goodson scored one goal.
  • Rachel Wood joined club HK Kopavogur / Vikingur Reykjavik of Iceland. The club finished 5-13-2, ninth in the Urvalsdeild league. Wood scored her first professional goal Aug. 13th in the 51st minute against Thor / KA, and added a second in a 2-1 season finale win against Afturelding with the  eventual game-winner in the 42nd minute.
