UCI Women's Indoor Team Completes Day One in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- Sakia Sailinuu had the UC Irvine women's indoor track and field team's top finals' finish Friday on the first day of the Cherry & Silver Invitational at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Sailinuu finished sixth in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:39.04 and teammates Marie Brashears (1:42.23) and Chelsea Schneider (1:43.18) were 10th and 12th, respectively. Alima Kamara of California won the race in 1:32.21.
UCI's Itos Aikhionbare placed ninth in the weight throw with a mark of 48-10 and Bridget Devaney was 17th at 43-1 ¾.
Madelyn Sando finished 23rd in the high jump at 5-0 ¼ while Charity Lyons (16-1) and Melanie Speech (15-5 ½) were 24th and 26th, respectively, in the long jump.
In seven of 10 sections of the 400 meters contested Friday, UCI's Lauren Hackney had the second-fastest time of 57.95 and KayC Wharton was 14th (59.97) and Kaulyn-Lee McNeill 21st (61.25), Lily Trinh (24th (62.21) and Kira Helmer 30th (62.75).
Two out of three sections of the mile run were run Friday with the Anteaters' Maggie McDuffee (5:23.72), Samia Sailinuu (5:24.99) and Kaycee Holcomb (5:25.11) finishing 8-9-10 while Nicole Mendoza was 23rd in 5:41.73.
The meet concludes Saturday.
