Women's Indoor Team Opens Season in Albuquerque

IRVINE, Calif. --- The UC Irvine women's indoor track and field team opens its 2013 schedule Friday and Saturday (Jan. 18-19) in the Cherry & Silver Invitational, hosted by the University of New Mexico at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Action begins Friday at 3:00 p.m. (MT) with Saturday's first event scheduled for 9:00 a.m. (MT).
"We are looking forward to our opener at a great facility like New Mexico's to see where some of our young talent is at this time," UCI associate head coach Jeff Perkins said. "Considering the altitude, it will be a bit of an adjustment for some of our longer sprinters and distance runners, but we are excited to get underway.
"With this week giving us an idea of where we are, it will help in allowing us to select a group to compete in Boise next week. For many on this trip it will be their first ever indoor track meet so what better way than to compete at one of the premier facilities in the country," Perkins added.
