Smith and partner Franziska Goettsching went 16-2 as a duo in 2012 including four straight wins to close out the season.
UCI used 13 different doubles pairs in 2012. Eight of those pairs spent just one match together.
CHANGE OVERS
The Anteaters welcome three newcomers to the fold, Sarah Gong, Sarah Stadfelt, and Alison Klein, all of which are freshmen.
UCI enjoyed a beneficial fall slate in the Cal State Fullerton Intercollegiate and UH Rainbow invitationals.
Sarah Gong was the B Flight singles runner-up of the CSUF Intercollegiates. She finished the fall season with an 8-2 record.
Sarah Stadfelt defeated Nakisa Vahdat to claim the CSUF Intercollegiate C Flight singles title. Stadfelt finished the fall at 7-2 while Vahdat went 5-3.
Stadfelt partnered with Marivick Mamiit to win the CSUF Intercollegiate B Flight doubles championship. They went 9-0 as a duo in the fall.
Other notable fall marks were Alison Klein (5-3), Marivick Mamiit (4-3), and Ali Facey (4-3). In doubles, A. Facey/Schweyer and Klein/Vahdat each went 3-2.
TROJAN LOVE
USC comes into 2013 riding high with a No. 4 national ranking. The Trojans finished 2012 with a 24-4 mark after falling in the NCAA national semifinal to conference rival UCLA. Three of the Trojans' four losses came to the Bruins.
USC and UCI open the season against each other for the second straight season. The Trojans swept UCI to start 2012. The schools could have a rematch within a week of their opening match as they will be in the same region for the ITA Kickoff Classic.
USC lauds a number of ranked singles players once again. Danielle Lao leads the way at No. 14 while No. 17 Sabrina Santamaria and No. 19 Zoe Scandalis follow right behind. Gabrielle DeSimone complete the quartet at No. 56.
The Trojans really excel in doubles with three ranked duos. Santamaria and Kaitlyn Christian lead the nation as the No. 1 doubles pair. DeSimone/Scandalis come in as No. 13 with Danielle Lao and Valeria Pulido showing a No. 40 ranking.
SPARTANS STARTS
San Jose State enters 2013 off of a 13-7 season which included a 12-match win streak.
The Spartans return their top four players including No. 1 Sabastiana Leon Chao who went 10-8 in the position. Erica Medlin, Chau Truong, and Isadora Busch provide a formidable front four.
Leon Chao and Medlin also return as the No. 1 doubles pair after going 13-4.
