THIS WEEKEND
● Coach Marc Hunt's fifth-ranked UC Irvine squad (10-1) returns to action this weekend at the SoCal Tournament hosted by UC Santa Barbara.
● The 'Eaters open against No. 12 UC Davis Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at Dos Pueblos High School. UCI will then face fourth-ranked California or No. 14 Air Force later that day, also at Dos Pueblos High. Sunday's matchups will be based on Saturday's results.
QUICK HITS
● UCI has been idle from competition since going 3-1 to finish fifth in the NorCal Tournament at Stanford Sept. 15-16. The 'Eaters defeated UC San Diego (11-8, OT), Pacific (11-10) and UC Santa Barbara (12-11, OT) at the NorCal tourney, and lost to California, 14-7.
● This will be the second meeting of the season between UCI and UC Davis. The 'Eaters won 14-12 on the strength of five goals from Mitch Wise Sept. 7 at the Anteater Aquatics Complex. Bojan Hrlec and Jacob Mourer added three goals apiece in the win.
● Juniors Mitch Wise and Bojan Hrlec lead the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation with 32 goals each this season.
● Wise scored five goals each in the first three games of the season, while Hrlec had a high of six in a win over Pomona-Pitzer Sept. 9. Hrlec scored the game-winning goal with 29 seconds left in overtime in the 12-11 win over UCSB in the NorCal Tournament fifth-place game.
● Senior Nick Pfeil has scored 21 goals this season with a high of four in the Sept. 1 win over Redlands.
● Sophomore Jacob Mourer has 15 goals with a high of four in the season-opening victory over Chapman Sept. 1.
Senior Winston Newland has scored 13 goals this year, including hat tricks in wins over Pacific and Occidental.
● Sophomore Alan Robertson also has a pair of hat tricks this season and has scored 13 goals.
● Redshirt freshman Chris Swieca has scored 10 goals this season with a high of two on three occasions.
● Junior goalie Alex Kazmier has 75 saves this season with a high of 17 in the Sept. 16 overtime win over UC Santa Barbara in the fifth-place game of the NorCal Tournament.
● Redshirt sophomore goalie Dylan Peterson has recorded 35 saves this season.
LOOKING AHEAD
● UCI faces Whittier and La Verne Oct. 6 in the Convergence Tournament at Haldeman Pool in Claremont.
