Box Score IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine faced its first deficit of the season at halftime, but quick strikes would power the 'Eaters to a come-from-behind 3-1 victory over the visiting Detroit Titans in the final day of the UC Irvine Invitational at Anteater Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Detroit (1-3-0) surprised the Anteaters with an 8th minute goal. Mike Pugh streaked down the right wing and crossed the ball just before the end line to a waiting Adam Bedell. Bedell chested it down and blasted in the opening goal from a few yards out. Detroit had the early 1-0 lead and ended freshman Michael Breslin's shutout streak at 188 minutes.
UCI (3-0-0) responded nicely with a 47th minute goal to even the match. Cameron Iwasa broke towards the goal and fed Christohper Santana. Santana's close-range shot was initially stopped by Titan keeper Nathan Steinwascher, but Santana knocked in the rebound.
Santana would come up big in the 65th minute as well. He closed it on the goal, and waited until the last second to dart a pass across and catch Lester Hayes III who punched the ball in and give UCI the lead.
Detroit continued to attack while yellow cards flew out for each team. UCI would seal it late as Enrique Cardenas cashed in on a breakaway opportunity with 15 seconds left.
All three goal scorers earned their first of the season. Santana and Hayes III each added an assist as well as Iwasa.
Breslin continued to win making him 3-0-0 on the year while stopping three shots.
UCI has one final home match before it heads out on the road. Pac-12 foe Stanford comes to Anteater Stadium Friday, Sept. 7th for a 7:00 p.m. match.
