
UC Irvine Hosts Final Two Home Non-Conference Games This Week

UCI returns home for its final two non-conference games at the Bren Center, hosting Idaho Wednesday (Dec. 5) at 7:00 p.m. and CSU Bakersfield Sunday (Dec. 9) at 1:00 p.m. Both games will be played at the Bren Events Center.
Idaho holds an 11-7 advantage in the series record over UC Irvine.
The teams last met in the Big West Tournament on Mar. 10, 2005 with the Vandals winning a quarterfinal game 63-50.
Idaho is 1-6 overall after falling 69-64 to Tennessee State at the Lady Griz Classic last Friday.
Alyssa Charlston leads the Vandals averaging 13.6 points per game.
53 of Idaho's 140 made baskets have been three-pointers. Idaho knocked down 14 threes against Montana last week.
The Vandals are currently in the middle of playing six consecutive games on the road.
Idaho was a member of the Big West Conference 1996-2005.
Idaho is the fourth Western Athletic Conference team UCI is playing this year with a fifth Utah State coming up in a couple of weeks. Cal State Bakersfield will become a member of the WAC in 2013-14.
CSU Bakersfield also enters the week with a 1-6 record. The Roadrunners will host California on Friday before heading to the Bren Center.
The Roadrunners have lost to Big West foes UC Riverside (75-63) and Cal Poly (75-71) earlier this season.
After winning the initial meeting in 2007, the Roadrunners have won the last six contests with the Anteaters, including a 104-92 victory in Bakersfield last season. Tyonna Outland led CSU Bakersfield with 23 points, while UCI redshirt Madisson McKenney, who is sitting out this year due to NCAA regulations after transferring from CSU Bakersfield, had a career-high 22 points against her current teammates. She was a perfect 8-8 from the floor and 6-6 from three-point range in 23 minutes of playing time. The Anteaters owned the boards with a 52-22 advantage.
In the last meeting, Bakersfield shot 57.6 percent (38-66) from the field, while UCI had a season-best 51.3 (40-78)
The Roadrunners have three players scoring in double-figures led by Tyonna Outland (12.3) and followed by Janae Coffee (11.5) and Amber Williams (11.3).
All three teams have struggled offensively early in the year with the Anteaters shooting 33.5 percent from the floor and the Vandals and Roadrunners at 33.2 percent each.
After starting the year 0-4, UCI has won two of the last three games.
The Anteaters defeated Seattle University 61-60 in overtime last Saturday on the road.
Junior guard Kelly Meggs returned to her hometown and drained a three-pointer with 1:02 remaining to give UCI the victory. Senior forward Cheyenne Cathey drove down the lane for a layup with three seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime knotted at 54-54.
Junior forward Camille Buckley led UCI with 16 points, six rebounds and a career-best five steals.
Meggs ended the night with a season-high 12 points and committed just one turnover in 36 minutes of action.
Junior forward Jasmine Bernard scored 10 of her 12 points in the second half. She led the team with seven rebounds.
Cathey had a season-high 11 points in the victory.
UCI had a school record 21 steals against the Redhawks breaking the old record of 20 set against Michigan on Dec. 3, 1993.
The win over Seattle U was the first non-conference win on the road since UCI beat the Redhawks, 69-55 on Dec. 13, 2010.
Junior guard Jennifer Tsurumoto ranks 11th in the Big West in scoring (11.1), while Camille Buckley is 11th in rebounding (6.1).Buckely is also third in offensive rebounds (3.14).
