Anteaters Comeback Thwarted in Overtime

Box Score

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. --- UC Irvine continued its overtime troubles with a 3-2 loss at the hands of Cal Poly Sunday in Alex G. Spanos Stadium.

Mackenzie Pridham buried his second goal of the match and seventh on the season a minute and 59 seconds into the first overtime. A Chase Minter cross was the final dagger dropping UCI to its second straight in overtime loss.

The Anteaters fought back twice during the match thanks to the combo of Cameron Iwasa and Gor Kirakosyan. Down 1-0 in the 56th minute, Kirakosyan found a streaking Iwasa through center and they connected to tie the match up at 1-1.

Again in the 77th minute with Cal Poly (7-5-0, 2-2-0) now up 2-1, Kirakosyan laced a cross to the right side of the goal that Iwasa turned on net to tie it again at 2-2.

Mackenzie Pridham proved just too much as his two goals proved to be the deciding blows.

The match finished with each squad firing 15 shots, however, UCI directed eight on net to Cal Poly's six. As a result, Michael Breslin stopped three shots to Wade Hamilton's six.

Iwasa leapfrogs Kirakosyan for the team lead in goals with five. Kirakosyan does retain the points lead with 12 as well as assists with four.

UCI (3-9-1, 0-4-0) now must climb out of an 0-4-0 Big West hole with six of its final seven matches coming against Big West South opponents. Next up will be the Cal State Fullerton Titans who visit Anteater Stadium on Saturday, October 13th for a 7:00 p.m. match.
