UCI Finishes on Three-Game Win Streak

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- UC Irvine finished a Sunday sweep at the UCSB Gaucho Invite with a 9-4 win over the No. 19 Cal State Northridge Matadors.

Jessy Cardey (Riverside / Poly HS) got the scoring going again with the only score of the first period. The 'Eaters (3-1) went into the half with a 4-0 lead.

CSUN (1-3) mounted a bit of a comeback in the third period with three goals, but Hannah Croghan (Yorba Linda / Rosary HS) scored a pair of her own to keep the Matadors at arms length at 6-3.

Cardey and Kelsey Klatt (Fresno / Sunnyside HS) each added their second goals of the match in the fourth period as the horn sounded with UCI ahead, 9-4.

Kate Avetoom (Tustin / Foothill HS) stopped eight shots to get UCI its third win.

Cardey has now scored a goal in 21 consecutive games, the longest streak in 'Eater history.

The Anteaters next play in the CBU Lancer Invite on Sat. Feb. 4th as they will play Hartwick (8:00 a.m.) and Cal Baptist (4:45 p.m.).
