COLLEGE STATION, Tex. --- The 'Eaters (1-0-0) opened the season with a win, 2-1, over the 2010 Southland Conference champion UT-San Antonio Roadrunners (0-1-0).

UCI jumped out front early thanks to Natalia Ledezma (La Mirada / UCLA) scoring her first as an 'Eater in the ninth minute. The 'Eaters were on the attack for most of the half taking a 1-0 lead into the locker room.

The 'Eaters kept on the attack, but the Roadrunners found the back of the net in the 53rd minute. The match would even out until the 74th minute when each squad would get some more chances. UCI would up the pressure and make it count by scoring the eventual game-winner in the 88th minute off the foot of Lexi Kopf (Sonora / Sonora HS).

Ledezma would add an assist on the Kopf goal while Jordan Bruce (San Diego / West View HS) provided the assist on the first goal.

Freshman Jennifer Randazzo (San Jose / Presentation HS) made the start in net posting six saves and earning her first victory.

No. 17 UC Irvine squares off with No. 11 Texas A&M at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21.
