Dennis, Wright Join UC Irvine Women's Volleyball

IRVINE, Calif. --- Outside hitters Victoria Dennis and Sydney Wright have signed national letters of intent with the UC Irvi ne Women' s Volleyball program and will join the Anteaters in the fall of 2012.

"We are very excited about the signing of Victoria and Sydney," said assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, Ben Bodipo-Memba. "They will both play a huge role in the future of this program. We are continuing to add more size and athleticism into the vacated spots, while adding more raw talent into the stable of people who can compete for starting positions right away."

Dennis is a 6-4 outside hitter from Bonita High School and plays for Club West Volleyball Club. She is a Prepvolleyball.com Senior Ace and named to the AVCA High School All American Pre Season watch list.

"Victoria was already a highly coveted middle blocker before switching to the outside spring of her junior year," said Bodipo-Memba. "With the switch her stock skyrocketed. She brings to UCI a lot of versatility with her ability to attack on the left, right and middle. It doesn't hurt that she's 6-4 either. We look forward to the immediate impact she will have in our program and anticipate a bright college career."

Wright, out of Chaminade High School, was voted to the AVCA High School All-American Preseason atch List and is 71st on the Prepvolleyball.com Senior Aces list. The 6-2 standout played for Sunshine VBC last year and will compete with Sports Shack this season. "Sydney is a natural athlete who is capable of playing both left and right. Already a phenomenal attacker, Syd is just beginning to tap into her potential. She's going to be a fun player to watch," said Bodipo-Memba.

Prepvolleyball.com says, "Wright is a smooth, high-flying outside hitter who has just begun to tap her volleyball abilities. Wright is a pin hitter capable of playing both on the left and right sides. She attacks effortlessly from all areas of the court, including the back row, where she hits the pipe with great effectiveness. She has very good hands and passes well for a tall player. Smart in the classroom and on the court, Wright may be the most athletic recruit ever to commit to UC Irvine. She should compete for playing time from the moment she arrives on the Anteater campus."
