ANTEATERS FACE REDHAWKS: UC Irvine (8-12, 3-6 Big West) takes a break from Big West action to host Seattle University Thursday in a non-conference match. The Anteater and Redhawks face off in Crawford Court at 7:00 p.m.
OLSEN KNOCKS DOWN CAREER-HIGH: Shaina Olsen (Los Gatos/St. Francis HS) put away a personal-best 19 kills to lead UC Irvine to a 3-1 win over UC Davis. Olsen hit .279 for the match and posted her second double-double match of the season with 12 digs to go along with two blocks.
TEAM NOTES
- The team is fourth in the Big West in service aces at 1.09 and fifth in digs at 15.76 and blocks at 2.19.
- The Anteaters posted a season-best 16 total teams blocks and tied for the season-high with 26 block assists against the Aggies.
- UCI tied its win total from last season and has 10 matches left to play.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
Shaina Olsen led UCI with 28 kills to go along with 14 digs and five blocks in two matches.
o Posted a career-high 19 kills in the win against UC Davis
o Had her second double-double match of the season with 12 digs
o Is second on the team with 144 kills and a 2.44 per-set average.
Kristin Winkler totaled 36 digs in two matches.
o Also had two aces against UC Davis
o Is four scoops away from hitting 1400 career digs
o 2nd in the Big West in dig average at 5.07
o Ranked 38th in the country in dig average
Aly Squires totaled 22 kills, 25 digs and five blocks in two matches last weekend.
o Chipped in 13 kills, 13 digs and five blocks in the win against UC Davis
o Added nine kills and 12 digs against Pacific
o Ranked eighth in the Big West in kills at 3.41
o Has nine double-double matches this season
Alexandra Hauser totaled seven kills and 10 blocks for the Anteaters.
o Leads UCI with 26 aces
o Ranked second in the Big West in aces per set
o Ranked 86th in the nation in aces per set
o Second on the team with 57 blocks
Marissa Alvarez dished out 34 assists for the team last week.
o 23 assists in the win against UC Davis was her second-highest total this season
o Picked up four digs in three straight matches
Mary Carls handed out 37 assists and added two aces and 12 digs.
o Had 10 digs against UC Davis for her fourth double-double match
o Two aces against the Aggies tied a season-high
Shannon Fleming led UCI with nine total blocks in two matches.
o Committed just one attack error in two contests
o Hit .455 (6-1-11) against UC Davis and posted eight blocks
o Was errorless against Pacific (5-0-13)
o Ranked 5th in the Big West in blocking average at 1.07
o Ranked 99th in blocking average
Taylor Smith had 12 kills and seven blocks for UCI last week.
o Totaled seven kills against the Aggies for her second-highest total this season
o Five total blocks against UC Davis matched a season-high
SERIES RECORDS: UCI and Seattle meet only for the second time this Thursday. The Anteaters swept the Redhawks in 2009.
