UC Irvine Hosts UC Davis, Pacific To Kick Off Four Straight Home Matches

ANTEATERS TAKE ON AGGIES, TIGERS: UC Irvine (7-11, 2-5 Big West) will play four straight home matches, beginning with a pair of Big West contests against UC Davis and Pacific travel Crawford Court, Friday (Oct. 21) and Saturday (Oct. 22), respectively. First serve for both matches are scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

WEAR PURPLE, DONATE A PHONE: The month of October has been nationally recognized as Dating and Domestic Violence Awareness Month and UC Irvine Athletics is partnering with the CARE office on UCI's campus to raise awareness about this important issue by sponsoring the following three home games this week.

Men's Soccer vs. UC Davis:  October 19th at 7:00 p.m. - Anteater Stadium
Women's Volleyball vs. UC Davis:  October 21st at 7:00 p.m. - Crawford Court
Women's Soccer vs. UC Riverside:  October 30th at 2:00 p.m. - Anteater Stadium

Wear purple to show your support and bring old cell phones to donate to the Verizon Wireless Hopeline Cell Phone Drive.  Any fan that donates a phone at the sponsored games will receive complimentary admission.  

 TEAM NOTES

  • Has split its weekend matches the last two weeks
  • Led by Aly Squires, who has 227 kills and a 3.44 average
  • Was held to single-digit blocks for just the fourth time this season
  • Ranked 84th in the country in dig average at 15.88

INDIVIDUAL NOTES
Aly Squires led UCI with 19 kills to go along with 12 digs and three blocks in a pair of matches last week.
o  Had 10 kills against UC Riverside for her 12th double-digit kill match
o  8th in the Big West in kills

Alexandra Hauser had nine kills, three aces and five digs in two matches.
o  Fired three aces for the third time this season
o  Ranked 1st in the Big West in aces at .40
o  Hit .300 (3-0-10) in the win against UC Riverside
o  64th in the country in aces per set

Kristin Winkler picked up 20 digs in two matches.
o  2nd in the Big West in dig average at 5.06
o  Has 1360 career digs and needs just 40 to become only the third Ant eater to register 1400 digs.
o  Has double-figure digs in 16 of 18 matches
o  Ranked 39th in the country in dig average

Shaina Olsen totaled 16 kills and 13 digs last week.
o  Committed just one error against UC Riverside (8-1-25) to hit .280

Marissa Alvarez handed out 27 assists in two contests.
o  Has reached double-digits in assists three of the last four matches

Mary Carls dealt 25 assists to go along with 11 digs last week.
o  Totaled 15 assists against Cal State Northridge
o  10th in the Big West in assist average at 8.24

Taylor Smith had nine kills and two blocks against opponents last week.
o  Career-high five block assists against UC Riverside
o  Six kills against Cal State Northridge ties her second-highest out-put this year. s

THE SERIES: UC Irvine leads UC Davis 11-4 in the series annals but the Aggies have won the last three meetings, including coming away with a 3-2 win earlier this year. Pacific holds a 52-8 all-time series lead over UCI after defeating the Anteaters 3-2 earlier this season in Stockton.
